Developing a thrombectomy service across a region

Belfast Health & Social Care Trust
  1. Work closely with your neuroradiology team in delivering stroke services – a thrombectomy service can only be developed when good working relationships already exist across teams.
  2. Expect hands on involvement at consultant level, before during and after procedures.
  3. Develop protocols in collaboration with all stakeholders, including other trusts and ambulance service.
  4. Monitor treatment times and outcomes, with regular meetings to review to continuously improve performance.
  5. Enthusiasm and a “can do” attitude are essential to get started but do not make a sustainable service.  Re-organisation, investment and staff will be required at some stage.
